Cory Hauter

Kayla GerdesCory is no stranger to school athletics.  He participated in football in the fall, and just finished an outstanding wrestling season.  Cory finished the year with a recorded of 32-2 and was ranked number one in the state of Illinois in his weight class of 171lbs.  Cory suffered only one loss in the regular season and won the regional and sectional in his weight class.  Cory was ranked number one going into the state tournament, but in the opening round he was upset by a lower seed.

Cory set a goal this year to reach 100 career victories, which he did early in the season.  At the end of his four year high school career Cory finishes with 126 wins.

The end result of his hard work on the mat did more than help him obtain 126 wins and a number 1 ranking.  Cory has been offered a full tuition scholarship to wrestle at Rend Lake Community College.

Kayla GerdesSome of his high school athletic accomplishments are being a 2 year letter winner in football, he was a state qualifier last year in wrestling, and he won three tournaments this season.

Cory says that he took JILG this year to learn more about his career options.  There are many career choices out there and he wanted to select one that fit his personality and interests.  Cory has decided to become a police officer, and plans to coach wrestling to give back to the sport that has given him a future.

What are your career/educational plans for after high school?

I plan to attend Rend Lake College using the athletic scholarship I received from them. After college I want to join the military, and then become a state trooper.

Kayla GerdesWhat is one thing that you have learned in JILG and how has it helped you?

One thing I learned from JILG is that doing for others feels just as good as doing for myself. We have helped many people this year during our service learning projects and I want to continue to help others throughout my life.

How has JILG helped or impacted you this year?

Through JILG I have gotten more involved in school activities and I am now more excited about coming to school each day.

What advice would you an upcoming JILG student?

Have good attendance, and enjoy JILG your senior year. If you take it seriously it will be a great experience and benefit your life.
