Jobs for Illinois Graduates (JILG) is proud to spotlight Robinson High School as its first featured school. Robinson High School is located in the Midwest part of the state on the Illinois/Indiana border, 30 miles south of Interstate 70. Robinson’s total enrollment is around 600 students and serves the community of Robinson.
Currently the JILG program at Robinson serves over 90 high school students in both the Senior (School to Careers Program) and Multi-Year (Freshman/Sophomore). With strong leadership from Career Specialists Bob Duzan and Amy Hannahs the Robinson JILG program has done an outstanding job preparing their students for life after high school by focusing on the following JILG Career Association Goals: Leadership Development, Career Preparation, Citizenship and Social Awareness.
To provide students with an in-depth look into a variety of possible careers the Career Specialists have brought in over 35 guest speakers including colleges: (Lincoln Trail College, Olney Central College, Eastern Illinois University, and Indiana State University) local businesses (Westaff Employment Agency, Pioneer Datamax, and various military representatives).
The Robinson JILG program has also largely contributed to their community through service learning projects. During the course of the year they have registered over 40 new voters, assisted local elementary students prepare cancer survivor cards, volunteered at the local food pantry, and assist with the local Relay for Life.
Recently the Robinson JILG program put designed Easter and spring cards that were colored by elementary students. The cards are then mailed to cancer survivors to help brighten their day and to remind them that they are not forgotten. The JILG program also organized a voter registration day and assisted County Clerk Patty Lycan register 40 high school students to vote in the next election. If you would like to learn more about Robinson’s service learning projects please contact Bob Duzan at bduzan@roe12.net.

Favorite Aspect of JILG
“I enjoy watching students discover that they have options beyond their experiences in Crawford County. My students have learned that we have an excellent community college that can help them develop a path to a 4 year university and the future career that they dream about. I also enjoy watching students develop a better understanding of their place in society as we perform our service learning projects. This is the first time many of the students have volunteered their time for anything in their community. Students gain a better understanding of how many volunteers it really takes to keep community programs functioning.”
