Lanphier High School JILG student, Justin Smith, has been selected as the Central State 8 Conference “Athlete of the Year”. Justin took home first place in the 100 and 200 meter dash at the recent state track meet. He not only won but broke the state record for the 200 with his time of 21.6. Justin also finished second in the long jump and ran on the LHS 4 x 100 relay team that took sixth palce. His points ultimately helped LHS win the third place team trophy.
Justin has been very active in the JILG program this year having been involved with service activities like “Crop Walk for Hunger”, “Adopt A Street”, “Central Illinois Food Bank”, and the “Red Cross”. Justin has also attended the JILG Career Development Conference and opened up the LHS Career Association I & I ceremony last November by leading the audience in the Pledge of Allegiance.
Through hard work and talent Justin has earned a scholarship to attend Indiana State University and compete in track and major in criminal justice with aspirations in becoming a police officer.
