Belleville West Students Win “Mighty Maroon” Awards

Each spring Belleville West teachers are asked to nominate a student who they feel stands out as a student for the “Mighty Maroon Award”.  Teachers are asked to choose one student who stands out above the rest.  This student must show good character, be a hard worker and show their commitment to being successful and a leader in their class.

This year three JILG students were chosen for this prestigious honor.  This is no small feat since there are over 2300 students at Belleville West.  Students were nominated by 68 different teachers this year.  The JILG students chosen for the “Mighty Maroon Award” were Alicia Harrison, nominated by JILG teacher, Roxane Dinga, Ian Sullivan, nominated by Math teacher, Jennifer Stauffer, and Jalicia Brown, nominated by Sr. Asst. Principal, Scott Posey.

Each recipient was honored at a ceremony by the faculty and parents and received a “Mighty Maroon” medal.  Each teacher wrote a short narrative about their nominee as to why they deserved the award.  A short reception was held after the ceremony.
